Red, White, and Green on the Fourth of July?
Yes, if you were describing our coffee tree at Vista Clara Coffee.
Red white and green are the theme at Vista Clara Coffee these days. If you have a chance be sure to drop by the roasting plant and see our coffee tree in full production. Right now we are enjoying the fragrant blooms which give the office a beautiful fragrance similar to gardenias. Then if you look carefully underneath the leaves you will find both green and red cherries growing and waiting for the right time to be hand picked and chosen for harvesting. Once you look at the tree you will understand fully why coffee is hand picked over a long period of time ensuring each cherry is picked at it's peak. We are pleased that our tree is indeed both flowering and producing it's fruit as that is the sign of an even climate and means we're doing it right. It's been so fun to mimic the harvest that's been happening in Costa Rica except on a much smaller scale.
Often the cherries are hiding but here is a branch that is loaded with fruit.
Here is an article on the life cycle of a coffee tree that details more about the process.
